Getting around Flinders

Flinders is a big university. It’s worth knowing, in advance, how to get between your classes, the library and other services and facilities without getting lost.

We recommend you have a look around the University before classes start, so you know where you’re going. The Lost on Campus app might also help you find your way around the campus.

The University loop bus is a free service that runs during semester (including exam weeks) linking the main University, Sturt and the Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) bus interchange.

A free Tonsley loop service is available for students and staff between Tonsley and Bedford Park. Two loop buses run from 7:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Check the timetables for details.

Maps and apps are also available to help you get around:

The Flinders University Library has four branches:

Flinders’ library staff are available to support and help you to make the best use of the library’s resources. Findit@Flinders is our online search engine that provides 24/7 access to millions of library resources. Findit@Flinders can be found on your Flinders dashboard (Okta).
We recommend checking out the Search Smart Getting Started guide to help you get started and make the most of using your library resources.

The Flinders University Student Association (FUSA) represents the views and interests of students enrolled at Flinders. It’s independent and aims to promote and advance the rights, interests and welfare of students.

An elected Student Council oversees the services provided by FUSA, which include:

  • student events and activities
  • academic advocacy and support
  • financial assistance and grants
  • the student magazine – Empire Times
  • the annual student diary
  • clubs and societies
  • student representation

Membership is free, so sign up to receive updates, learn what’s on offer, and how to get involved in student life. More information is available at FUSA.

Student Events

FUSA provide many student events throughout the year that include weekly ‘Relax Days’ where you can enjoy free food, haircuts, stationary and live music. Other events include Multi-cultural Festival and the annual FUSA Ball, amongst others.

Academic Advocacy

FUSA provides a free, confidential and independent academic advocacy service. If you have issues or concerns regarding a topic, course, or a member of academic staff, the Student Assist team can help you to understand your rights and responsibilities under University policies, take action and work towards a resolution.

Student Representation

Flinders is your university. Your voice matters. FUSA works to develop, support and enable the student voice – and ensure it is heard.

There are opportunities to be a representative at School and Faculty level, and across the entire university as a member of Student Council.

Find out how you can get involved.

Empire Times

Flinders’ student magazine, Empire Times, is now in its 43rd year. Ten issues are published each year, with print copies available on campus, or online. Keen writers, illustrators, photographers and thinkers are welcome to contribute – or just enjoy each copy with a cuppa.

There are a number of clubs and societies you can join while at Flinders, in a range of interest areas:

  • social and cultural
  • academic
  • political
  • sporting
  • spiritual and
  • general interest
  • faculty, school and course-specific associations

It’s a great way to meet new people with similar interests, who may not be studying the same course as you.
If you can’t find a club that suits you, resources and services are available to help you start your own.
